Within one year the mass planting paid off and there was little soil to see between plant groups. A thick layer of pine chippings was laid to conserve the moisture in the soil, suppress weeds (up to a point!) and to give the garden a well-cared for appearance.

The plentiful supply of both sunshine and water allowed the varieties of local plants to thrive and proved to our neighbours that there is a point to growing plants that are not either edible or useful!

Stocking the small pond with 4 goldfish and 2 Koi produced a shoal of mixed breeds within a short space of time topping 35 fish and not a mosquito in sight.
